Duties

Help

Plans, coordinates, and manages all administrative, operational, and fiscal aspects of Fitness Center facility as assigned by the Fitness and Sports Director. Performs all personnel management functions for assigned facility. Assists with the management of all aspects of the base adult fitness program to include all core fitness activities, enhanced programs and instructor contracts. Establishes an annual fitness plan for all training, fitness classes, incentive programs, and special events. Oversees all fitness contracts and ensures payments are made in accordance with the contract and Air Force guidance. Manages all core activity offerings and schedules and periodically reviews programs to ensure activities are meeting AFI requirements and customer needs. Ensures all activities adhere to safe exercise principles. Assists with the management of the Fitness Improvement Programs (FIP) in coordination with the Health and Wellness Center (HAWC). Establishes appropriate exercise classes for those individuals on the Air Force FIP. Works in conjunction with the Sports Program Manager to administer and oversee the installation sports programs. Monitors sports competitions conducted in assigned facility. As needed, serves as project officer for base running events as well as MAJCOM, Air Force or Inter-Service level training camps and/or tournaments when base is assigned as host base. As needed, arranges all logistical support for events, i.e., transportation, lodging, per diem, sport officials, coaches and coordinates all aspects of the award banquets. Assists the Assistant Fitness and Sports Director in hosting Air Force and Armed Forces Sports Championships. Conducts ongoing supervision/monitoring during peak usage hours. Researches current fitness journals and publications and provides sound, credible fitness information and products to customers. Supervises NF-0189-1, Recreation Aids. Determines performance standards and evaluates the performance of employees. Determines training needs, approves leave requests, reviews personnel actions, maintains and documents 971 file. Initiates disciplinary actions and investigates grievances and complaints, resolving them informally where possible, and notifies supervisor of complaint and results achieved. Maintains work reports and records relating to section e.g., progress, production, cost, personnel, equipment, materials, and time and attendance. Plans and schedules work operations. The incumbent receives general supervision from the Fitness and Sports Director, in the form of oral or written instructions, priorities, objectives and deadlines. Supervisor is normally available to assist in resolution of problems or to provide guidance when performing new or complex duties. However, incumbent is expected to plan and carry out program responsibility policies and objectives. Supervisor spot checks the operating activity of the center to ensure objectives are met and in compliance with directives. Responsible for assets which includes financial, property, and equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifying Experience:
Applicants must demonstrate proficient specialized experience that has provided knowledge of the standardized body of rules, procedures, and operations associated with one or more indoor/outdoor recreation functions. This experience must clearly illustrate the ability to perform satisfactorily at the level of responsibility required for this position, including expertise in preparing budgets, managing financial and physical resources, and demonstrated within a fitness and sports program's framework.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
1. Ability to operate a Point of Sales System and perform basic arithmetic in relation to cash handling.
2. Basic knowledge of fitness equipment and ability to instruct patrons in the use of this equipment.
3. Ability to accurately and clearly communicate fitness center rules and policies to customers.
4. Basic knowledge of computer operations.
5. Ability to amicably interact with staff and patrons and communicate both orally and in writing.
6. Ability lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds
7. Must have the ability to supervise, train, and schedule subordinates.
