Duties

Help
  • Serves as a computer scientist responsible for the development and promulgation of Army wide training information systems congruent with Army Training Information Systems (ATIS) architectural requirements and specifications.
  • Maintains mastery of the functional elements of automated information systems and their roles/relationships with each other when combined in a total network.
  • Participates as consultant, advisor or member on various planning and working groups formed to analyze, evaluate and recommend studies, analysis, simulation and development of information systems.
  • Provides engineering oversight of the architectural direction of ATIS core capabilities.
  • Performs a broad range of Computer Scientist and Analyst work and executes technical projects.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • SECRET CLEARANCE: Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY): up to 10% of the time (sometimes on short notice) to worldwide locations, using the fastest mode of transportation available.
  • In accordance with DoDM 8140.03 and supplemental Army guidance, the employee must obtain and maintain the following requirements for each Cyber work role (except Data, AI, and/or Software Engineering) at the assigned proficiency level:
  • 1) Foundational qualification requirements within 9 months, 2) Resident qualification requirements within 12 months, 3) 20 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) per work role code (which can overlap).

In order to qualify, you must meet the basic education AND experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Rendering technical guidance and support for information systems design, development, and integration; 2) Performing detailed analysis on requirements and use cases, and mapping them to engineering and design artifacts; 3) Developing requirements for information system capabilities and supporting infrastructures; AND 4) Evaluating existing information systems technology to advise on solutions/strategies for training system requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
