The United States Space Force (USSF) at Los Angeles Air Force Base is searching for a Chief for Commercial Engineering & Integration (NH-0801-04, GS-14/15 equivalent).

Description:
Are you a visionary engineer ready to shape the future of America's capabilities in space? As an Engineer for the U.S. Space Force, you will serve as the senior technical authority for integrating cutting-edge commercial space technologies into our national defense architecture. You will lead a diverse, contractor-led technical workforce, guiding the development of novel commercial solutions and ensuring they meet the warfighter's needs at the speed of relevance.

In this role, you will provide expert consultation to senior leaders, direct complex technical analyses, and build robust relationships with partners in the intelligence community and commercial industry. You will be at the forefront of identifying and mitigating risks, resolving complex integration challenges, and defending engineering strategies that will define our nation's next-generation space capabilities. If you are an expert in systems engineering and passionate about leveraging commercial innovation for national security, this is the mission for you.
At a high level, the E&I lead serves as the central integration hub for COMSO, acting as a matchmaker between joint space warfighter needs and vetted commercial space capabilities. This requires a lot of strategic stakeholder engagement across PAEs, SWAC, MSDP, SSDP, SpaceWERX, DIU, DARPA, and SAF/SQ to align investments and bridge funding gaps for promising technologies and game-changing commercial space capabilities.
In terms of ongoing job responsibilities, the lead is tasked with institutionalizing the commercial space acquisitions framework across the enterprise to standardize how we transition these commercial capabilities into programs of record, mission deltas and space components. They also manage ongoing security and integration pipelines, such as utilizing the DARPA Bridges initiative as a continuous process to clear commercial companies for FCLs and DD254s. Additionally, the role involves leading the Commercial Innovation and Investments Team (COMMIIT) to ensure ongoing joint commercial funding transparency, while continually shaping the broader agile requirements process through the JCIDS revamp to ensure COMSO's opportunity-based acquisition model is represented.

Ideal Candidate:
A professional engineering degree (bachelor's level) from an ABET-accredited institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred. Extensive background in systems engineering and integrating commercial space solutions. Deep knowledge of the DoD/USSF mission, organizational structure, and acquisition processes. Proven ability to provide technical oversight for complex projects and evaluate state-of-the-art technology. Must meet, or be capable of meeting, Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements for this Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position.
