The United States Space Force (USSF) at Kirtland AFB, NM is searching for a Space Vehicle Flight Test Engineer to support SSC/SYD89 (NH-0801-02, GS-05/11 equivalent).

Description:

Daily requirements:
- Provide technical support to the Space Vehicle Engineering flight regarding existing satellite missions, potential future missions, and related ground systems.
- Work with the branch's Flight Directors, mission partners, and contractors as the authority regarding space vehicle and ground system interfaces, engineering, and mission objectives.
- Master mission control software, monitor telemetry and support operations and test events.
- Contribute engineering support to testing and anomaly resolution as appropriate.
- Understand and improve engineering discipline/rigor across our satellite operations equities (Vehicle/Ground Engineering, Requirements Analysis, Test and Analysis, Systems Engineering)
- Through participation/leadership of technical reviews, help maintain/improve the tech baseline.
- Perform focused technical analyses and trades on subsystems to provide key data for decisions.
- Work with the Technical Director and other flights and branches to ensure activities are in line with the unit's technical roadmap and the organization's broader technical roadmap.


Ideal Candidate:
- Experience working in space vehicle engineering or space ground system engineering.
- General knowledge of satellites and their respective ground systems, cloud computing, and networking.
- Familiarity with cloud computing, networking, the Satellite Control Network (SCN), Commercial Augmentation Services (CAS), and ground Telemetry, Tracking & Control (TT&C) systems.

  • Must be a U.S Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret / SCI security clearance.
  • Safeguards classified or sensitive budget-related information and/or files.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.
  • This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
  • Employee may be required to perform travel by military or commercial passenger aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
  • PCS / relocation funding is not authorized.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
  • Non-critical acquisition position.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • Position requires a professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred.
  • The employee must meet the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position.
