Duties

Help
  • Performs periodic scheduled maintenance, certification, and modifications.
  • Resolves extra ordinary technical problems within specialty area.
  • Serves as a senior electronics technician and resident expert in Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems maintenance.
  • Diagnoses causes of equipment malfunctions through application f advanced electronics theory.
  • Replaces or repairs components, tunes, adjusts and aligns equipment.
  • Participates in official Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) flight inspections and evaluates the resulting data.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • This position requires satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and obtain certification(s) for an Information Assurance Technical Level One (IAT-II) within 6 months of employment and maintain the required certification/recertification.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled.
  • This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 2 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. depending upon the needs of management.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) Making visits to equipment sites to verify the overall operation, maintenance, repair, modification, and/or testing accuracy of electronic systems for air traffic control systems, navigational, surveillance, communication and other related systems associated with the National Airspace System (NAS); 2.) Making decisions for the resolution of air traffic control systems and equipment problems; 3.) Withdrawing systems and subsystems from the NAS until equipment is functioning within technical tolerances and safety parameters to meet certification standards; 4.) Installing and upgrading new air traffic control systems and related equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
