Summary

Performs a variety of Industrial hygiene functions.
Conducting health and safety inspections at the CAVHCS locations.
Responsibility for highly complex and sensitive inspections.
Identifies and requisitions test equipment used in performing industrial hygiene tasks.
Performs and arranges for proper calibration and maintenance of equipment.
Plans and conducts training for employees requiring personal protective equipment such as respirators, protective clothing, etc.
Actively participates in and advises the facility GEMS committee, Emergency Management Committee, Accident Review Board, Infection Control Committee and the Executive Safety Committee on matters related to IH and decontamination.
Serves as leader of the CAVHCS emergency decontamination response team.
Other duties as assigned.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; OR
A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; OR
In addition to the above, you may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: Knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures and standards s applicable to a full range of complex safety and occupational health management responsibilities; Knowledge of healthcare work processes, procedures, equipment, facilities, materials, and activities sufficient to anticipate and control hazards, to evaluate and determine causal factors contributing to accidents and resulting hazardous working conditions; and Knowledge of environmental management systems, respiratory protection programs and decontamination programs sufficient to establish, develop and continually improve these programs at a VA medical center. We also accept GIF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, RTF, TXT, PDF, ODT or Word (DOC or DOCX). We do not accept PDF portfolio files. We recommend using a sans-serif font size like Lato, if available. Other widely available options are Calibri, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, Open San Source Sans Pro, Roboto or Noro Sans. Make your page margins 0.5 inches. Consider using 14-point size font for titles and 10-point for the main text in your resume. Next steps
