Duties

Help

The Cybersecurity Specialist role directly contributes to protecting the security of critical public health assets. Specific duties under the direction of the Director include but are not limited to:

  • Reports to the Counterintelligence Team under the guidance of the Director, Counterintelligence and Insider Threat and supports the FDA Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (DCISO).
  • Serves as an intelligence research specialist.
  • Analyzes data to assess risk to the FDA in support of foreign national visits and employment, foreign travel, law enforcement investigations, national security or insider threat inquiries, and cybersecurity related incidents.
  • Researches and reviews data at the classified and unclassified levels to identify information of value to the FDA Cybersecurity, Counterintelligence, and Insider Threat Program.
  • Independently researches, analyzes, and reports on supply chain risks impacting FDA data, information, and technology.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and reports on counterintelligence data trends.
  • Supports the Counterintelligence and Insider Threat Director in assessing counterintelligence and insider threat risks to the FDA.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC) position which falls under the 2210 occupational Series, you must meet the following requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 05/15/2026:

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Education:
A bachelor's degree or higher in a computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, information systems management, operational technology, engineering, national security, or other related field. The degree must be from an accredited program or institution;

-OR-

Experience: Comparable work in or demonstrated understanding in cybersecurity, compliance, risk or vulnerability management, operational technology, information technology, information management, information security (INFOSEC), national security, counterintelligence, insider threat, or a related field.

-AND-

Education/Relevant Years of Experience: Applicants must meet one of the following education and/or relevant years of experience combinations to qualify for the AD-2210-00, Band C position (GS-13 equivalent):

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, information systems management, operational technology, engineering, national security, or other related field. The degree must be from an accredited program or institution AND at least four (4) years of comparable work in or demonstrated understanding in cybersecurity, compliance, risk or vulnerability management, operational technology, information technology, information management, information security (INFOSEC), national security, counterintelligence, insider threat, or a related field; -OR-
  • Master's degree in a computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, information systems management, operational technology, engineering, national security, or other related field. The degree must be from an accredited program or institution AND at least three (3) years of comparable work in or demonstrated understanding in cybersecurity, compliance, risk or vulnerability management, operational technology, information technology, information management, information security (INFOSEC), national security, counterintelligence, insider threat, or a related field; -OR-
  • Doctorate degree in a computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, information systems management, operational technology, engineering, national security, or other related field. The degree must be from an accredited program or institution AND at least one (1) year of comparable work in or demonstrated understanding in cybersecurity, compliance, risk or vulnerability management, operational technology, information technology, information management, information security (INFOSEC), national security, counterintelligence, insider threat, or a related field; -OR-
  • MD/DO/DDS/DPM/DVM degree. The degree must be from an accredited program or institution. -OR-
  • Six (6) years of comparable work in or demonstrated understanding in cybersecurity, compliance, risk or vulnerability management, operational technology, information technology, information management, information security (INFOSEC), national security, counterintelligence, insider threat, or a related field.
NOTE: Applicants must submit all relevant transcripts that demonstrate you possess the required education.

To be acceptable, the foreign credential evaluation must include/describe at a minimum, the following information: (1) The type of education received by the applicant; (2) The level of education in relation to the U.S. education system, and state that its comparability recommendations follow the general guidelines of the International Evaluation Standards Council; (3) The content of the applicant's educational program earned abroad, and the standard obtained; (4) The status of the awarding foreign school's recognition and legitimacy in its home country's education system; and (5) Any other information of interest such as what the evaluation service did to obtain this information, the qualifications of the evaluator, and any indications as to other problems such as forgery.

Note: Some positions require the completion of specific courses or a specified number of credit hours. Therefore, the foreign credential evaluation should provide information similar to that of an official transcript, to include a list of the courses taken, quarter and/or semester hours awarded, the cumulative grade point average (GPA), honors received, if any, date degree awarded.

  2. Association of International Credentials Evaluators (AICE)
