Duties

Help
  • Control access of vehicles, pedestrians, boats, rail cars and aircraft/drone access to the terminal.
  • Perform badge spot checks, random vehicle inspections of incoming and out-going containers/equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Guard and protect Federally owned property, buildings and equipment.
  • Conduct rudimentary inquiries and interview witnesses/suspects of violations.
  • Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations.
  • Enforce the security and safety regulations of the terminal.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent meet the requirements of Individual Reliability Program in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 to include passing entry level and annual re-certification of the Physical Agility Test (PAT).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health/ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete Initial and annual in-service security guard training.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil actions due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the detention of individuals.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Incumbent will be required to pass entry level and annual re-certification of the Physical Agility Test (PAT) IAW AR 190-56.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Incumbent must wear prescribed uniform.
  • Incumbent must participate in regularly scheduled training in the techniques of use of deadly force, anti-/counter-terrorism, first aid, firearms, search and seizure, security operations and enforcement.
  • Must be in sufficient physical condition to conduct assist in searching vehicles and persons and restraining persons. Infrequently lifts persons involved in accidents/incidents; uses unarmed combat techniques for self-defense to subdue persons.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work.
  • Incumbent will be required to successfully complete specialized training such as Tactical Coxswain Course and a Commercial Vessel Boarding School among other Maritime related training.
  • NCIC/NLETS-Complete all required State-provided National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience working with a Federal, State, municipal, local or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life; such as the following: enforce security rules and regulations; escort persons or vehicles; verity the identification of an individual entering controlled areas; perform security patrols to identify potential hazards; perform traffic control; control the access of personnel or vehicles to property/installation; monitor various alarm systems; respond to security incidents. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

Conditions of Employment Continued:

  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (Lautenberg Amendment). This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition
  • Incumbent must successfully pass the State's certification test required from the state Criminal Justice Information Service (CJIS) security official (if required by the State).
  • Within the first 2 years, HP crew members, must complete a swim assessment, National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) courses- Basic Crew Member, Boat Search and Rescue and Tactical Operator, Boat safety course, additional Maritime training courses, and MOT personnel qualification standard. Failure to compete the training requirements could lead to disciplinary actions.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Incumbent is required to work both inside and outside with possible exposure to inclement weather.
  • Incumbent must maintain certification on law enforcement systems.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights
