As an Supervisory IT Specialist, you will:

  • Develop and design program plans and innovative approaches where no precedents exist, as well as developing creative solutions to difficult problems; directs teams; structures assignments; drafts persuasive and concise reports and briefing materials; and assesses work completeness and sufficiency.
  • Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of IT systems, services, networks, and data by planning, analyzing, developing, implementing, and maintaining, and improving information security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility, and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data.
  • Recommend areas to be covered and develops new approaches where no precedent exists and works with highly interpretive laws and regulations, and targets areas of highly controversial problems.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To be qualified for this position at the GS-14 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Specialized experience is defined as work that involves:
- Planning, coordinating, and implementing robust processes to ensure that threats and deficits in IT protection, operating capacities, and network stability are identified and remedied; AND
- Planning, coordinating, and implementing overarching IT security projects and initiatives; AND
- Conducting risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed IT systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and protection needs..

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

Conditions of Employment (CONTINUED):
- A probationary or trial period may be required. Continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service; the certification will occur no less than 30 days before the end of the probationary/trial period.
- A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
- If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
- Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
- Obtain and use a Government-issued purchase card for business-related travel.
- File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
