Duties

Help

Combines knowledge of NAS systems and cybersecurity expertise to tactically apply information security/information assurance principles to track all planned changes to assigned systems, assessing planned changes to determine potential system security posture impact, ensure timely identification and reporting of planned NAS system changes with potential cybersecurity impact, and support Cyber Operations activity.

Often represents FAA as a senior technical POC on projects, programs or other work activities. Plays a lead role in drafting, reviewing, and editing reports or documents for final approval. Presents briefings to obtain consensus/approval on policies. Implements higher level security requirements such as those resulting from laws, regulations, or Presidential directives. Provides policy guidance and instructions to others.

Ensure cybersecurity requirements, polices, principles, and practices are applied to all phases of the system lifecycle. This includes development and review of documentation, and coordination with program managers, system owners, acquisition planners and other decision-makers and supporting analysts within assigned due dates. Develops plans for IT security systems that anticipate, identify, evaluate, mitigate and minimize risks associates with IT systems vulnerabilities in specific offices or complex applications.

Facilitates and communicates with clients and keeps client organizations appraised of status of ongoing actions and sensitive/controversial issues as they arise. Makes an effort to collaborate with stakeholders to find solutions to problems and to explore new opportunities to improve products or the delivery of services.

Ensures awareness and compliance by FAA IT specialists and user community of emerging policies and procedures. Applies advanced knowledge of FISMA and FIPS regulations.

Actively participates with others to achieve overall goals by contributing ideas and efforts, voicing concerns as necessary, and volunteers to perform tasks that support team’s objectives.

Assist management to set the team’s strategic vision and performs both strategic and tactical planning. Assists as required in the resolution of technical or programmatic issues which at times will be time sensitive. Provides timely responses to information requests, ensuring the information provided is accurate and complete.

Develops and maintains an understanding of NAS Enterprise Operations policies and processes especially with respect to information systems security and situational awareness.

Work is reviewed rarely, typically through status reports and at project completion, to ensure technical compliance and alignment with the requirements of the project or other work activity. Work activities typically impact directly on the objectives of one or more major subdivisions or LOB/SO’s and may impact on the objectives of the FAA. In some areas, the work may affect the safety and security of customers.

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H / FG/GS-12. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience is:Experience applying technical knowledge on the NAS to assist system owners with cybersecurity requirements.
