Duties

Help
  • You will assist in performing maintenance and repair work on the Chesapeake and Delaware Bridge.
  • Climb and rigs scaffolding, climbs to all areas of the bridge, hook up safety cables for other members of the crew, checks all cables and make secure.
  • Clean and prepare bridge surfaces using high pressure hoses, pumps and sandblasters.
  • Perform welding duties using acetylene and electric welding processes, able to weld vertical, flat and horizontal.
  • Clean and maintain tools, materials and equipment.
  • Operate and drive an A-62 Reach-All, crash truck both weighing over 26,000 pounds and a water truck weighing 26,000 when empty and weighing up to 65,000 fully loaded., and water truck to worksites
  • Perform operator maintenance on all vehicles (e.g. monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filter, checking tire pressure hose connections).
  • Maintain service records, completes oil delivery records, trip tickets and completes accident report in case of accident.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state issued Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an N Tank Endorsement
  • Must be willing to take and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and must be willing and able to pass random drug and alcohol (to include urine analysis) tests thereafter.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): The ability to perform the work of a Bridge Mechanic Helper (MVO) independently without more than normal supervision to include tasks such as: performing various repair work, and/or checking equipment for safety, and/or operating vehicles such as an A-62 Reach-All.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.

  • Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)
  • Use of Measuring Instruments


PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Works in cramped and hard to reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently required to lift, carry, and set up materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and over. The incumbent exerts moderate physical effort in operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed outdoors and at considerable heights. Danger of serious cuts, bruises and broken bones and falls from high places exists. Use of protective clothing and respirator is required when sandblasting. Subject to skin and eye irritations when using solvents and painting.
