Duties

Help
  • Serve as a recognized expert in the field of safety and occupational health (SOH) management developing and sustaining DHA SOH Management Systems at the Agency, Networks, and Medical Treatment Facilities (MTF) management levels.
  • Develop safety and health policy, objectives, and programs which have national and international impact.
  • Evaluate Agency-wide safety and occupational health program implementation and the program's effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance to all levels of management related to complex safety and health issues for activities and offices that are widely spread geographically, in the continental U.S., Europe, and Pacific regions.
  • Investigate major and/or complex accidents. Coordinate Mishap Investigation Boards (MIBs) for Class A investigations and overseas Class B MIB process.
  • Analyze mishap data to identify trends and causal factors, and recommend requirements or development of Agency safety standards for the elimination and control of a wide range of high risk hospital safety and health hazards.
  • Develop Agency policy and provide oversight for the SOH Management System, SOH Risk Management Process, Hazard Management Process, and Mishap Prevention Activities.
  • Develop SOH related plans, goals and metrics for the Agency Strategic Plan and Implementation Guidance. Coordinate training development to address Agency-wide SOH requirements.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes administering multi-facility safety and occupational health programs; assisting in the formulation of enterprise-level safety policies or standards; and advising executive leadership on systemic hazard mitigation or overall program effectiveness. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
