As a Supervisory Accountant, you will provide professional and technical advice in accounting and financial reporting to ensure that the division successfully meets the agency's mission and organizational objectives.

Location of position: Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Office of Financial Operations (BF).

Duties

Help

  1. Assists the Division Director, and subordinate supervisors, in the accomplishment of short and long-range planning and the execution of actions, which have far-reaching impact on the Division regionally and nationally. 
  2. Provides ongoing advice and support to subordinate supervisors regarding Branch operations and activities, and the resolution of problems presented by subordinate personnel.
  3. Implements decisions made by the Division Director and higher-level agency management officials, often times facilitating the work of subordinate supervisors and personnel to accomplish desired objectives.
  4. Advises and guides accountants in the interpretation of accounting systems and issues and in the implementation of procedures and programs. 
  5. Works to maximize the potential of subordinates to achieve organizational goals and sound business results. Works with subordinates to identify training requirements.

  • Serve a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period, if required.

Qualifications

The GS-14 salary range starts at $127,829 per year.  

Accountant Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:  You must have either A or B, or C:

A.  Degree in accounting

B.  Degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law

C.  A combination of college level education and experience.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is professional accounting experience that included the following: providing sound and authoritative technical guidance related to financial/accounting issues, programs and/or systems; assessing and participating in new system development and system enhancements to improve program effectiveness; and advising on the implementation of accounting procedures and programs.

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

A panel of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) will review the resumes of qualified candidates and assign a score for each of the five required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) based on the experience documented in the resume and narrative responses.

  1. Knowledge of the principles and methods for evaluating program or organizational performance using financial and nonfinancial measures.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to provide advice, guidance, and resolutions concerning various types of accounting and financial matters to various levels of personnel.
  3. Ability to accomplish work effectively through others and to maintain cooperative work relationships among all parties concerned, to achieve appropriate and timely results.
  4. Knowledge of accounting systems and related appropriation programs to integrate improvements to accounting system capabilities and to solve problems in overall program management and reporting requirements.
  5. Ability to develop and support staff by providing guidance and ongoing feedback, sufficient to improve employee performance and support achievement of organizational goals; identifying training needs and providing training opportunities.
