Duties

Help

- Administer fitness, sport programs and special events.
- Oversee operation of facility.
- Manage and operate issue counter to include customer service.
- Oversee general housekeeping during shift of duty within facility and immediate outside area.
- Participate in required in-service training and maintains currency, capability and certification to perform basic first aid, CPR and AED.

  • This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • Incumbent may be required to work an irregular tour of duty which could include weekends, holidays and overtime.
  • Incumbent will be required to complete training courses in CPR, first aid and AED.

  • Required to possess a government operator’s permit. May be required to work at any fitness center on Robins AFB as assigned by management.

ONLY EXPERIENCE OBTAINED BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0189, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this position that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04), pay band (NK-01) or equivalent. Specialized experience is described as being a Group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities; Teacher's aid in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities; Aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service; Aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities; Summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, and boating and fishing areas (e.g., demonstrating camping techniques and park safety, conducting nature tours, and overseeing farm animal areas provided for children); Sales or stock clerk in a recreation supplies and equipment shop; Aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control and accountability for such property in a recreation facility; Aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities.

OR EDUCATION: Applicants must have successfully completed a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your unofficial college transcripts.

OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Applicants must have equivalent combinations of successful completion of post-high school education and experience. NOTE: You must submit copies of your unofficial college transcripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of sports, sports rules, fitness programs, special events, and intramural and varsity sprots.
2. Knowledge of customer service practices and principles to include interaction with patrons, telephone courtesy, reservations and associated practices and principles as obtained through previous experience or in-house training sessions.
3. Ability to administer basic concepts of special programs, events and sports.
4. Knowledge of proper use and operation of electronic and mechanical fitness equipment and supplies associated with fitness and sports.
5. Ability to demonstrate use of cardiovascular equipment, free weights and nautilus equipment to patrons.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting or similar activities; load and unloading weight equipment; operating cleaning equipment and small vehicles. Pre-employment physical is required.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
