Duties

Help

The primary purpose of this position is to instruct and lead Air Force Civil Engineering personnel in the operation of contingency electrical systems , runway repair methods, and to perform duties associated with the operation of electrical systems and their components.

  • Plans, develops and validates training. Determines and selects instructional design, methods and media.
  • Develops training materials to support objectives.
  • Prepares performance evaluations on each student in accordance with Electrical Wartime Task Standard (WTS) and Standardized Point of Instruction (POI).
  • Develops, instructs, evaluates, and modifies Emergency Airfield Lighting System (EALS) which includes runway, threshold, approach, taxiway, visual glide slope Precision Approach Path Indicator (APAI), strobe, obstruction and distance marker lights.
  • Instructs and evaluates students on installing, maintaining, and repairing interior and exterior, overhead, and underground, electrical power distribution systems and components such as capacitor banks, vacuum and air break switches, breakers, transformers, fuses, lighting fixtures, receptacles, and motors.
  • Climbs utility poles and operates special purpose vehicles and equipment(including line maintenance and high reach trucks) to inspect and evaluate repair of overhead distribution systems.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs cathodic protection and grounding systems, multiple frequency converters, and voltage and current regulators.
  • Advises, trains, and evaluates students for electrical power distribution and special purpose electrical systems installation to include repairing deficiencies.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the ND Air National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the ND National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the ND Air National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Must work in all types of weather with high voltage electrical power and likely to come in contact with petroleum products.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE

Length of time is not of itself qualifying. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess the experience or training which demonstrate the ability to lead other technicians engaged in duties related to electrical installation occupational series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess the 24 months of experience to include: 1) ability to lead 3 or more workers in performing trades and labor training assignments; 2) knowledge of electrical theory such as power factors and that which is applicable to transformers, series and parallel circuits, line loading, line losses, etc.; 3) Ability to read and comprehend circuit diagrams and schematics; 4) installing, maintaining, repairing, and modifying high-­voltage electrical systems and major substation components of electrical systems; 5) diagnosing trouble and determining remedy when complex relationships exist among different electrical system circuits requiring knowledge of all electrical units and systems; and 6) making high-voltage electrical repairs that required the use of precision measuring equipment and common hand tools.
