Help

The major duties of the Criminal Investigator (Program Manager) position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Engages in active investigations, seizures of evidence, and conducts digital forensic processing of evidence for criminal investigations Bureau-wide.
  • Attends and receives briefings on the objectives of specific investigations, available intelligence on the identified suspects, and evidence collection requirements for the activity, which must be documented. At briefings, provides options and recommendations pertaining to forensic digital evidence collection for criminal investigations.
  • Apprehends, arrests, and interviews individuals for criminal prosecution. Leads, participates in, or represents the Bureau in multi-agency task force operations. Testifies in criminal court cases as a fact or expert witness.
  • Creates working copies of evidence for use in criminal investigations; maintains evidentiary chain of custody and property controls; sterilizes storage media; extracts mobile device data; conducts examinations of computer images and mobile device extractions; assists with analytics of all sources of digital evidence.
  • Develops training plans and curricula for digital forensic training for members of the DFB and program personnel, including Digital Forensic Examiners (DFE), Digital Media Collection Specialists (DMCS), Digital Forensic Specialists (DFS), other special agents, and other ATF personnel. Serves as a liaison with other law enforcement agencies by sharing techniques, best practices, and methods to gather digital evidence for criminal investigations.

  2. Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

MOBILITY PLAN: New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement. Qualifications

To qualify for the Criminal Investigator (Program Manager) positions at the GS-1811-14 position, you must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.

Specialized experience must include all of:

  • Understanding in the field of digital forensics for law enforcement investigations; AND
  • Understanding of digital forensics applications to assist with market research, testing and evaluation, and acquisition of new forensic software and hardware; AND
  • Preparing written reports and assessments; provide input for budgets; gather and compile statistics and other program data

Education

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

In order to be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process.
