Duties

Help

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of 6 SFS/S3 Operations Section, ensuring that functional work area complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Represents 6 SFS Operations Section with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs law enforcement patrol operations. Incumbent plans, organizes, and directs law enforcement patrol operations across rotating shifts through subordinate supervisors
  • As the EST OIC the incumbent ensures individual and team proficiency in the area of special weapons and tactics in accordance with DoD, USAF and National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) standards and serves as the primary liaison to other federal and local agency SWAT teams.

  • This position has been designated position by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • The employee must pass initial an periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • Incumbent must be knowledgeable in the use of assigned Security Forces weapons.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required
  • This position requires access to firearms. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence may not occupy this position in accordance with the Gun Control Act of 1968;
  • as amended 30 Sep 96. Employee must sign DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition.

Qualifications

  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
  • Must wear an approved uniform and approved civilian attire. May be required to wear special protective clothing such as coats, boots, vests, gas masks, and/or helmets and may be exposed to high levels of noise.
  • Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required initial and annual physical fitness/physical agility tests, and meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth. The incumbent must immediately report to supervisory any significant medical threshold shifts in health status and/or medication requirements. Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law and order and security duties.
  • Must obtain and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid.
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
  • This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • The incumbent must maintain current and updated knowledge of Federal, DOD, AF, MAJCOM, State, and local level rules and regulations for Peace Officer Standardization and Training (POST) certification qualification as a police officer.
  • An extensive background in maritime operations and maintenance is required.
  • Must be certified to utilize various Law Enforcement and Security related technology platforms, including but not limited to; National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Web EOC, GEO Base, Emergency Management Systems, Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS), Air Force Justice Information System, Small Unmanned Aircraft System (SUAS), non-lethal weapons (e.g. neuromuscular incapacitating device (NMID), baton, etc.) and Lattice coastline camera systems.
  • Centrally Managed by the Security Career Field Team.
  • Subject to completion of 1-Year probationary period for assignment to supervisory (or managerial) position.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR), Police Series, GS-0083-11.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-10, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include applying law enforcement and antiterrorism principles to manage comprehensive security operations; ensuring compliance with safety and security regulations; leading and developing staff through subordinate supervisors; analyzing and adjusting organizational work operations to meet program requirements; communicating effectively both orally and in writing; and implementing specialized procedures to enforce personnel access controls and prevent unauthorized entry into secure areas.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-10 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of law enforcement and antiterrorism theories, principles, methods, techniques, and practices to establish policies and procedures and administer a comprehensive security/law enforcement protection.

2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors.

4. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources; Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

5. Ability to formulate and effectively implement special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personal access controls and preventing unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
