Duties

Help
  • Cleans and removes garbage or debris from offices, bathrooms, hallways, classrooms, lover rooms, and exterior of the building to include athletic fields.
  • Performs cleaning of athletic gym area and/or lifting equipment.
  • Maintain playgrounds, prepare athletic fields for specific events, setting up and moving sports apparatus.
  • Follows safety regulations when using chemicals and cleaning products.
  • Assists maintenance personnel with duties such as unstopping toilets, mounting frames, and/or cutting bushes and weeds.
  • Patch, paint, and repair minor wall damages.
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, power washers, etc., to maintain school floors and exterior sidewalks.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Laborer without more than normal supervision. Remove debris from surface areas; perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, moping, or dusting; and utilize landscaping equipment to maintain lawn and/or grounds - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
  • Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision
  • Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)
  • Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order)
  • Physical Effort: Requires very heavy physical effort such as frequently lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds (moving, setting up and working from ladders and scaffolds).
  • Working Conditions: Works outside in all kinds of weather and inside in areas that may be dusty, dirty, noisy and have other adverse working conditions. The equipment, tools and tasks involved frequently require special care to avoid serious injuries. Occasionally, is exposed to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. and to serious injuries (e.g., broken bones) from falls from ladders and scaffold
