Duties

Help
  • Utilize automated transportation systems to track or plan inventory for shipment.
  • Operate baggage conveyor for commercial aircraft for loading or off-loading.
  • Operate post scales to measure the weight of the cargo to ensure weight capacity does not exceed safety standards.
  • Enforce safety regulations while working in or around the aircraft.
  • Load individual or crew served weapons on aircraft for transport.
  • Prepare aircraft load plans to include hazardous materials certification.
  • Unload ammunition from aircraft or trucks to ensure they reach the predetermined destination.
  • Direct the flow of air traffic on the airfield.
  • Execute maintenance of equipment such as Material Handling Equipment, 10K forklift, baggage conveyors, pickup trucks, or 25k-loaders.
  • Update appropriate agencies or personnel of changes to schedules.
  • Identify cargo deficiencies to ensure they are corrected by deploying unit prior to loading cargo.

  • Incumbent must successfully obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 75 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent is required and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Irregular work hours required after normal duty hours, weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary, the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Per 49 CFR 172.702 and 49 CFR 172.704 employees with any hazardous materials transportation responsibilities must take and successfully complete the DoD-80 hour in-classroom Hazardous Materials Certification Course every two years.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Provide air movement planning assistance to units, 2) Executing movement operations to include verifying deployment equipment meet air movement standards; 3) Verifies deployment documentation; and 4) utilizing automated transportation systems to track shipments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

  • Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 13 months by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
  • This position may be converted to a permanent, career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met.
