Duties

Help
  • You will greet customers and receive incoming paperwork such as doctor's memoranda, abbreviated limited duty forms, and health records.
  • You will maintain numerical and alphabetical files.
  • You will review handwritten or typed rough draft Medical Board reports for completeness and accuracy and making corrections in grammar, medical terms, and format.
  • You will notify patient when medical board is ready for review.
  • You will conduct status checks and provide information regarding progress of patient's board in the system.
  • You will operate word processor and electric typewriters.
  • You will apply, rules and regulations concerning patient charts, records, and other procedures such as automated data processing sufficient to search and abstract medical data.
  • You will review records for compliance with applicable Defense Health Agency (DHA), Department of Defense (DOD), BUMED, and local policies and standards.
  • You will analyze and evaluate patient medical records for completeness and consistency; and participate in quality assurance duties that include review, analysis, and filing reports.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of general experience in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
General Experience -One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

  • Experience with agency regulations governing eligibility requirements and supporting documents necessary to establish patients' eligibility to receive medical care.
  • Experience with administrative procedures related to patient flow, patient care, and patient record maintenance to facilitate patient access to care.
  • Experience with some medical terminology and practical knowledge of anatomy and physiology to answer routine questions and to share information pertaining to follow up of consultations, laboratory and other contracted services from within the medical facility, and from other healthcare facilities to complete patient records.

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

Successfully completed education 2 years above the high school level in any field for which high school. (Your transcripts must be attached.)

Failure to submit a copy of your transcripts with your application will result in an ineligible rating.

Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-3 through GS-5 for all positions except Reporting Stenographer, GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
