This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent, Senate Office Buildings (SOB), Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services Division, Furniture Branch, Furniture Materials Handers Section.  The Materials Handler (MVO) Leader will lead employees to perform tasks in the receipt, storage and delivery of furniture and furnishings.

Duties

Help

The tour of duty for this position is: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday thru Friday.

Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends.

Leader Duties: 

Serves as a working leader of three or more employees in receiving, storing and delivering a diverse range of construction products and materials. Ensures that assigned work is executed and completed on time.

Explains the duties to be done and sets the pace for work assignments to be completed in a timely manner.

 Resolves work-related problems and keeps the Supervisor informed of performance issues; ensures that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy.

Checks work while in progress and when finished check to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been followed.

Reports to Supervisor on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays.

Materials Handling:

Unloads and uncrates furniture and furnishings such as carpet, chair mats, chairs, desks, file cabinets, glass for desk, tabletops and tables. Examines invoices to verify receipt of items delivered. Notifies vendors to resolve any discrepancies noted.

Places property numbers on items and records numbers on inventory records.

Delivers items to storage areas and customer offices using dollies, fork lift trucks, hand trucks, pallet jacks and other materials handling equipment, as appropriate to the item size. Selects location for item storage based on established storage plans. Enters receiving and disbursement data into the automated inventory.

Delivers furniture and furnishings from the warehouse stockrooms to customer locations. Places furniture as directed by staff members and rearranges existing furniture as requested.

Transports any items removed from the client’s office space to storage or repair shop as appropriate. Documents action taken. Participates in the Annual Inventory. Operates bar code scanner to conduct inventory and update automated inventory records. Documents damages, overages or shortages and informs the Property Manager.

If needed the leader should be able to drive the box truck, CDL not required,

Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position requires a valid D.C. or State driver’s license and a current Forklift Certification as a Powered Industrial Truck operator for the Forklift in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.178(1)(6).
