Duties

Help
  • Serves as a team member to the Practical Nurse Branch and Department of Clinical Specialties.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of continuing education programs offered through the MEDCoE.
  • Assists in the education and development of the faculty at the Practical Nurse Course and Department of Clinical Specialties by providing in-services on nursing, health care, and education.
  • Oversees, counsels and evaluates didactic and practical exercise student performance based on written tests, individual research and independent study, oral presentations and direct clinical(practical exercise) observation.
  • Utilizes approved academic system of record to monitor, record, and manage functions related to student information, personal management, student grades, records, and testing.
  • Assists with peer review of instructors and evaluates instructors from a variety of health-related disciplines which includes Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, and Nutrition.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Incumbent must meet instructor qualifications as outlined by Texas Board Nurse Examiners and meet MEDCoE and T2COM instructor qualifications.
  • The work requires moderate physical exertion involving extended periods of standing, as with classroom instruction, walking, and performing administrative activities.
  • The work requires long periods of kneeling, lifting and stooping are required during the teaching of CPR and other physical assessment skills.
  • The work may require some common physical characteristics such as above average agility and dexterity (e.g. starting IVs, giving medications, and doing physical assessments).
  • Membership in professional organization(s) (i.e., American Nurses Association (ANA), National League of Nurses (NLN)) is highly desired.
  • A Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is highly desired.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Individual Occupational Requirements Education

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.

OR

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: developing medical and nursing instructor lesson plans using Terminal and Enabling learning objectives written in straightforward statements expressed from the learners' point of view with measurable outcomes that the learner will exhibit at end of lesson; planning, organizing and directing meetings; conducting formal instruction in classroom setting; curriculum formulation and adaptation; and evaluation of students learning and application of teaching principles related to the adult learner.

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:

  • Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s).
  • Supervising or administering a training program.
  • Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results.
  • Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
