Duties

This position assists visitors and staff by offering exceptional customer service and treating everyone in a welcoming, respectful, tactful and professional manner. 

As a Museum Technician, you will:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Gallery floor plans, including layout of collections/exhibitions, restaurants, gift shops and entrances/exits. 
  • Keep informed of the Gallery’s calendar of events, service tools, special events and daily offerings. Demonstrate strong understanding of the neighborhood and other amenities that would benefit both local visitors and tourists from around the world.
  • Check coats and other personal items in checkrooms. Answers incoming calls to gallery phone lines.
  • Provide access control for general admission and other events or special exhibitions.
  • Reserve passes and event reservations.
  • Assist with data entry and clean-up, preparing museum mailings, training incoming employees, responding to online correspondence.

Qualifications

Applicants can substitute education for specialized experience by possessing education of four years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field.

Specialized Experience StatementCandidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-04 level in the Federal service or private sector, providing customer service to museum patrons and providing administrative support such as assisting with data entry and responding to online correspondence.

Four years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field. 

Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
