Summary

You will serve as an INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (NETWORK/CUSTSPT) in the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DIRECTORATE of NCIS.

Duties

Help
  • You will demonstrate experience with installation, configuration, maintenance and management of computer systems, to include local area networks.
  • You will be proficient with information systems security, to include implementation of standard operating procedures, software and controls.
  • You will be experienced with determining information requirements, technical and functional specifications and evaluation processes necessary for procurement and development.
  • You will be adept at development of network management and system administration guidelines, policies, and procedures, and comprehensive operating instructions

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position has been designated as a Cyber IT/CSWF position. Incumbents of this position are required to comply with the DON Cyber IT/CSWF program requirements of SECNAV M-5239.2 within six months of appointment and maintain such certification.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Experience in conducting the inventory of Information Technology equipment and software in support of Information Technology projects and special support missions of the organization.

2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Experience in conducting the inventory of Information Technology equipment and software in support of Information Technology projects and special support missions of the organization.

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Experience in representing the Information Technology team in meetings and conferences with counterparts internal and external to the organization and briefing management on all Information Technology projects and requirements.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Experience in developing and maintaining technical policies and procedures and administering internal controls and quality assurance plans; developing network management and system administration guidelines, policies and procedures, writing comprehensive operating instructions and preparing training materials for operating personnel.

I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:

  • IT service provisioning, communications, network management, systems administration.
  • Computer hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Periodic testing of recovery procedures.
  • Providing technical guidance to users.
  • Developing and maintaining technical policies and procedures.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.
