Help
  • Receive work orders, oral instructions, and sketches that provide specific information on the work to be done.
  • Make repairs that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems.
  • Hook up to installed systems such as water heaters, disposal units, and faucets.
  • Drive various vehicles (e.g., utility truck or similar vehicle (primarily under 10,000 gross vehicle weight) to and from the work site.
  • Complete trip reports/forms, perform operator maintenance, and follow state and federal rules, regulations, laws and guides.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health/ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Plumbing Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Utilize plumbing methods and techniques to measure, cut, bend, and thread pipe and tile; Remove, clean, reinstall, and replace joints and fixtures; Caulk and seal such things as elbows, union joints, tile pipe, faucets, and shower drains; Place and connect water fixtures and facilities such as hydrants, water mains, lavatories, showers, sinks, or unit gas heaters; Clear difficult stoppages in drain pipes; Check piping, fittings and fixtures for defective parts and leaky drains; and Select tools, deciding on methods and techniques to use to carry out the work. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. The employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weights over 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
  • Work is performed both inside and outside. Employee will be required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; and in close quarters such as manholes. Employee is exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, scrapes, burns, and infections. Frequently required to make repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. Employee may be required to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to, coveralls, ear plugs, safety glasses, hard hat, respirators, gloves, and safety shoes.
