Duties

Help

Provides basic needs for the animals (standard feeds and liquids).  Feedings will be done according to owners schedule.  Cleans and sanitizes kennels and cages, feeding and watering areas, cleans with disinfectant.  Washes bowls and litter boxes.  Discusses with each owner the animals individual feeding habits, date of last rabies immunization, distemper, etc.  Receives customers, furnishes information concerning facility operation and maintain record of reservations.  Calculates and posts charges to customers accounts.  Receives payment on accounts.  May help with emergencies.  This is a developmental position; incumbent can be non-competitively promoted to NA-03 Animal Caretaker upon satisfactory completion of training and management approval after 12 months of employment in position.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.  Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.  Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

Skills and Knowledge:
Must have some experience working with cats and dogs within a boarding or animal clinic background preferred.  Must have knowledge of and interest in animal's characteristics, needs and behavior.  Skill in observing, handling, and controlling animals without injury to animal or self.  Knowledge of animal's normal appearance and activities to recognize obvious changes.  Knowledge of normal feed and liquid needs of animals.  Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibility:
Performs assigned tasks independently.

Physical Effort:
Frequently lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.  Required to use of brushes, hoses, pooper scoops, squeegees, and other cleaning implements.  Walk/stand for extended periods and work may be performed in a bent position.  Physical effort may be required to handle docile and sometimes recalcitrant animals.

Working Conditions:
Exposed to unpleasant odors, animal waste, potential animal bites, and scratches.  May be required to wear protective equipment.
