Duties

Help

As a Statistical Metrologist, you will drive innovation in measurement science by advancing both foundational and applied statistical methodologies. You will serve as a technical expert, applying cutting-edge data science and machine learning techniques to solve complex metrology challenges across emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and advanced communications. In this role, you will:

  • Develop state-of-the-art foundational and applied statistical designs, modeling techniques, and computing strategies to enhance NIST's core measurement service capabilities.
  • Apply high-level data science models and machine learning methods to address metrological challenges in critical areas, including spectral analysis, materials research, communications technology, and semiconductor development.
  • Partner with NIST researchers to evaluate the performance of existing measurement methods and lead the development of innovative, next-generation metrology solutions.
  • Provide essential statistical support for NIST's measurement and calibration services through the development of standard reference materials, the coordination of inter-laboratory studies, and the execution of key comparisons.
  • Drive Technical Innovation: Conduct independent or collaborative statistical research and lead software development initiatives specifically tailored to statistical metrology to advance the broader NIST mission.
