Duties

Help
  • You will Implement prevention programs and related program management activities for the installation and tenant commands.
  • You will review command climate assessments and assist in identification of prevention program goals, objectives, measures of performance and effectiveness.
  • You will collect data to identify trends and organizational needs to support the military and military-connected community.
  • You will identify existing or potential risk and protective factors that could lead to problematic behaviors and recommend preventive measures that the installation, command or unit can take to address risk and protective factors.
  • You will serve as an installation-based Integrated Prevention Coordinator and advise installation, Command and unit leaders on prevention action plans and initiatives.
  • You will consult and advise relevant stakeholders on the installation (e.g., Resilience, Equal Opportunity, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, Family Advocacy, Suicide Prevention, medical personnel, and Veterans Service Organizations, etc.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Implementing and coordinating program activities to prevent destructive or problematic behaviors such as suicide, sexual harassment, sexual assault, substance misuse, etc. for the installation, commands, and units; 2) Conducting research, compiling data, and producing reports using systems, software and databases to identify program needs, evaluate program effectiveness, and recommend process improvements; 3) Advising commands on program management using occupational health, social and organizational psychology, and other social science perspectives while adhering to established guidelines, policies, and local directives to maintain compliance ; and 4) Presenting routine briefs, trainings, and action plans on prevention efforts and impact to installation commands and leaders.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position
OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Substitution of education for experience:

Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related discipline appropriate to the position
OR
Successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

This announcement uses the Workforce Prevention Positions of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

A 40 hour work week is typical for this position.

Physical Demands
Work is primarily sedentary; however, attending meetings or training requires walking or driving to and from various buildings. Occasionally, may be required to life office supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds, and arranging furniture to accommodate a training or meeting space; requiring some physical ability.

Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in a well-lit, ventilated, and heated office/classroom environment. Occasionally, work is performed in shipboard or waterfront environments which requires the incumbent to comply with safety standards for the specific work environment, including wearing safety equipment, safety shoes, hardhat, eye and hearing protection, etc.
