Help
  • Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware and software and associated systems security tools. Administers and maintains systems access control in accordance with policy guidance.
  • Optimizes systems performance and security. Recommends configuration changes to improve overall security and performance in accordance with cyber defense policies.
  • Manages the installation of software and hardware, systems fixes, security updates and operating system enhancements.
  • Diagnoses and recovers failed systems, performs root cause analysis, and provides recommendations to inform future cybersecurity efforts.
  • Oversees the management of accounts, network rights, and access to servers, systems, and equipment.

  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • In accordance with the DoD 8140 policy series, the position is subject to completing Foundational Qualifications in 9 months and completing Residential Qualification requirements overall in 12 months.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. Individuals tentatively selected will be required to submit to urinalysis for illegal drugs prior to appointment or placement and random drug testing after appointment.
  • In accordance with the DoD 8140 policy series, the position is subject to completing Foundational Qualifications in 9 months and completing Residential Qualification requirements overall in 12 months.
  • This position is designated as MISSION ESSENTIAL.
  • This is a Key Position.
  • This position may require periodic counter-intelligence polygraph exams as directed.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work an alternative or shift work schedule.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

Basic Requirements:
Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies appropriate to, or above, the level of this position. For vacancies below the full-performance level of the position, the basic requirement will be evaluated on a developmental basis. Your resume and work experience should clearly support your ability to meet these competencies and will be evaluated as part of the entire application process.

Attention to Detail- experience reviewing my own information technology-related work or data and have been asked by others to review their work or data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards
Customer Service - experience maintaining relationships with customers, assessing current information technology needs of customers, and developing or identifying information technology products and services that are tailored to meet customer needs
Oral Communication -briefing mid-level management and IT staff on the status of information technology systems, projects, or daily operations, including the communication of technical information to a non-technical audience
Problem Solving - identifying alternatives to address complex information technology-related issues by gathering and applying information from a variety of sources that provide a number of potential solutions

Qualifying Experience:
To qualify at the GG-12 your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, qualifying experience is defined as:

Experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware and software AND optimizing system security by applying configuration change AND diagnosing system issues, managing user accounts and access while supporting the overall operation of information systems.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.?

Candidates must describe how they meet the qualifying experience and/or selective placement factor(s) within the body of their resume. All qualifications must be met within 30 days after the closing date of the announcement.

Education

There is no substitution of education for the qualifying experienceat the GG-12 grade level.

  • This position is in the Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It is being recruited under 10 U.S.C. 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system.
  • If you are a current Federal Career/Career-Conditional employee, you will be placed on an Excepted appointment.
  • This appointment does not confer eligibility to be non-competitively converted to an appointment in the competitive service.
  • Salary range includes a Targeted Local Market Supplement (TLMS) in accordance with Section 1599f of Title 10 U.S.C. and Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1400.25, Volume 3006.
  • A three year trial period may be required if you have not previously completed a trial or probationary period in the excepted or competitive service.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform duties after hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Telework availability will be based upon the mission requirements and supervisory determination
  • We may use this announcement to fill additional vacancies within 90 days of the closing date.

  • This position is covered under DoD Manual 8140 which will be subject to future Cyber Workforce requirements as defined by the Manual.
  • This position has been designated as "Mission Essential." Incumbent will be required to report to work or relocate to a new duty location, within the United States, in times of local/national emergency.
  • This is a Key Position. This position cannot be vacated during an emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively. In accordance with DoD Instruction 1200.07, Screening the Ready Reserve, the incumbent of a Key Position be removed from any Ready Reservist or military recall status.
  • The Department of Defense (DoD) policy on employment of annuitants issued March 18, 2004 will be used in determining eligibility of annuitants. It applies to former Federal civilian employees receiving a retirement annuity from the Civil Service Retirement and Disability Fund that are hired within the DoD on or after November 24, 2003.
