Duties

Help
  • Serve as the J35 CENTAM/SOUTHAM Plans Officer for the J35 office, which is located in the J3 Directorate, Joint Interagency Task Force (JIATF) South, Key West, Florida.
  • Conduct a full range of planning in support of Counter Illicit Trafficking Operations.
  • Manage special projects for multilateral international counter-drug operations to advance engagement goals.
  • Prepare training programs in support of new methods, approaches, or procedures.
  • Work closely with senior executives of Partner Nations and US County teams to promote and advance agency goals.
  • Participate in meetings and working group sessions in both English and Spanish.
  • Coordinate with high ranking military and civilian peers from a wide range of agencies or organizations.
  • Provide input on methods to improve assets, capability, and interoperability with partner nation military or law enforcement.
  • Draft communications to incorporate lessons learned and recommendations and publish after action reports and operations orders. .
  • Advise senior leadership on matters pertaining to Counter Illicit Trafficking Operations.
  • Direct preparation of briefings, information, and decision documents.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must be able to travel on official government business, both within and outside the United States, including travel to high-threat areas up to 50% of the time.
  • This position is designated Tier 5, Special Sensitive, High Risk and the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance Level with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access as a condition of employment.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.

Army DCIPS positions apply Veteran's Preference to preference eligible candidates as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 U.S.C., in accordance with the procedures provided in DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 2005, DCIPS Employment and Placement.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the planning, coordination and execution of international counter-drug operations; partnering with Foreign nation military forces, law enforcement agencies, and U.S. Interagency organizations to support counter-drug operations; and assisting with the drafting and publishing of communications related to Counter Illicit Trafficking Operations such as operations orders, command and control architecture, multinational maritime and air asset utilization, after action reports, lessons learned, and recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS/GG-12.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • This position requires thorough knowledge of the Spanish Language and the ability to communicate orally and in writing on a daily basis. The minimum qualifying language skill level will not be less than Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Level 2/2+ scoring in the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DPLT) or equivalent in listening and reading proficiency.
