Duties

Help
  • Conduct hazardous materials inspections to maintain safety standards, complying with regulations.
  • Use automated systems to track deployment progress during operations.
  • Train unit personnel on deployment procedures such as; packing, loading, and/or transportation.
  • Monitor equipment inspections during staging to ensure compliance with deployment readiness standards.
  • Coordinate air, freight, and/or rail load plans to support unit deployment while maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs.
  • Assist in managing unit movement operations by addressing issues and/or providing technical guidance when necessary.
  • Prepare Letters of Instruction and/or Memorandums of Instruction to ensure proper documentation for deployment data.
  • Operate material handling equipment to support freight, air, and/or rail operations during deployments.
  • Plan unit movement operations to ensure compliance with established doctrine and/or coordination with key stakeholders.
  • Validate movement plans for accuracy by cross-checking with unit/division transportation officers.
  • Determine loading requirements to ensure optimal space allocation on railcars, trucks, and/or aircraft.
  • Prepare load plans for freight and/or rail operations to ensure compliance with movement standards.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • this position has been designated as "Key" incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period.
  • Irregular work hours required after normal duty hours, weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential"
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • When necessary, incumbent will be required to work in shifts to cover 24-hour operations.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent is required and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Works in support of other deployment operation missions as required: rail and unit movement planning and execution.
  • Per 49 CFR 172.702 and 49 CFR 172.704 employees with any hazardous materials transportation responsibilities must take and successfully complete the DoD-80 hour in-classroom Hazardous Materials Certification Course every two years.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1. Assisting in preparing movement plans for unit deployments.; 2. Operating material handling equipment to move cargo.; 3. Training unit personnel on packing, loading, and/or documentation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields related to the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
