Duties

Help

This position will contribute to and advance the Workforce Analytics Program within NIST.

  • Develop data visualizations to synthesize and share insights and actionable data for business decisions in Tableau.
  • Reviewing work of other team members for production.
  • Research and apply guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop machine learning and AI models.
  • Consult with stakeholders and customers to identify the appropriate data, methodological approach, and design for projects.
  • Determine the adequacy of input data and ensure integrity and pertinence of output data.
  • Work with teams to develop data products and definitions.
  • Communicate findings in concise, plain language to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Research and design presentations and interpretations of analytical outputs tailored to specific audiences, including the use of data storytelling.
  • Serves as a subject-matter expert on topics related to data science, providing consultation and training.
  • Creates reports, dashboards, and models that accurately reflect vital information about the NIST-federal workforce and Human Resource services.
  • Contributes to and advances the Workforce Analytics Program multi-year roadmap.
  • Responds to time-sensitive requests.
  • Make predictions and present clear, actionable recommendations on HR-related issues.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.

IN ADDITION to the basic qualification requirements above, an applicant must meet the criteria below:

Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of the specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level (ZP-III at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience using one or more relevant data science programming languages such as R, Python, SQL, MATLAB to clean, parse, or structure datasets and databases; Experience working with stakeholders regarding data preparation methods such as exploratory data analysis, model creation, data visualization, etc.; Experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, etc. to inform Stakeholder business decisions, and managing a large portfolio of dashboards/reports that are refreshed frequently.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
