As a Industrial Hygienist at the NH-0690-4 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Evaluates and selects appropriate PPE, including specialized cleanroom garments, respirators, gloves, and eye protection, considering the specific hazards and requirements of microelectronics manufacturing. Develops and implements PPE programs, including training on proper donning/doffing procedures to prevent contamination and ensure worker safety.
  • Develops and delivers comprehensive (EH&S) industrial hygiene training programs specifically tailored to the hazards of the microelectronics environment. This includes training on chemical safety, semiconductor process safety, cleanroom protocols, respirator use, emergency response and ergonomic best practices for microscope work and repetitive tasks. It also includes environmental training regarding hazardous waste, DOT shipping and receiving, air permits and sewer discharge permit requirements, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and DoD regulations related to occupational health and safety, including OSHA, EPA, DTSC, SMAQMD, and DoD directives.
  • Develops and manages medical surveillance programs for employees exposed to specific hazards in the microelectronics environment, such as chemicals known to affect the respiratory system, skin, or nervous system.
  • Provides expert consultation and technical support to DMEA management, process engineers, and cleanroom operators on all aspects of EH&S related to microelectronics.
  • Collaborates closely with process engineers, facility engineers and management to implement effective control solutions that do not compromise process integrity.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the NH-04 , if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-03 or GS-13 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:

  • Developing, implementing, and/or managing a comprehensive industrial hygiene and environmental programs tailored to the specific hazards and processes.
  • Conducting detailed workplace assessments to identify and evaluate potential occupational health hazards.
  • Recommending and implementing appropriate control measures.
  • Prioritizing engineering controls such as fume hoods, local exhaust ventilation (LEV), and /or enclosed process equipment.
  • Designing, evaluating, and/or recommending engineering controls specifically designed for microelectronics manufacturing environments (e.g. evaluating the effectiveness of clean room HEPA filtration systems).
  • Recommending modifications to process equipment to reduce emissions, and designing specialized local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems for specific processes.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

  • The overall salary range listed above is provided for informational purposes as it represents the full range that is applicable to current employees in this occupation/grade; however, a selectee's initial pay is always set below the maximum rate of the range.
