Help

As the Assistant Area Director, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Serves as the Assistant Area Director within the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA), Store Operations Group, supporting CONUS and OCONUS stores.
  • Acts as the full deputy and alter ego to the Area Director for the Pacific Area, assuming responsibility for operational oversight in the Director's absence.
  • Exercises full managerial authority to plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate the operational, administrative, and mission-related activities of the Pacific Area organization.
  • Oversees the execution of tactical operations for all commissaries within the Pacific geographic region, ensuring compliance with agency policies, performance standards, and mission objectives.
  • Administers and manages a multi-appropriation financial program, ensuring operations are aligned with complex Department of War (DoW) planning, budgeting, and funding requirements.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to subordinate managers and staff regarding operational priorities, resource allocation, program implementation, and performance results.

Qualifications

To qualify for Assistant Area Director your resume and supporting documentation must support:

A. Creditable specialized experience includes:

  • Managing mission activities and multi-appropriation financial programs within DoW planning and funding frameworks.
  • Experience leading major commissary operational programs including logistics, acquisition, systems, and facility planning.
  • Experience conducting long-range studies, performance reviews, and risk analyses to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Coordinating crisis-response actions, executing confidential inquiries, and acting for the Area Director during absences.
- Time-in-grade applies to the promotion of current and former federal employees who hold or have held a permanent GS position in either the competitive or excepted service in the previous 52 weeks, including current employees applying under VEOA. - Time after competitive appointment. Under category rating procedures you are placed into one of three categories based on the evaluation results:


Best Qualified -Candidates who possess the type and quality of experience that substantially exceeds the position's minimum qualifications, including all selective placement factors and appropriate quality ranking factors.
Highly Qualified - Candidates who possess the type and quality of experience that exceeds the position's minimum qualifications.
Qualified- Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and are proficient in some but not all of the position's requirements.

Candidates in the best qualified category are referred to hiring managers before candidates in other categories.
