Duties

Help
  • You will lead and direct an engine company consisting of an engineer and 2–3 firefighters during emergency response operations.
  • You will perform structural, aircraft, and wildland firefighting.
  • You will direct crew operations in fire suppression, rescue, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul.
  • You will respond to aircraft emergencies and perform rescue/extrication operations.
  • You will provide emergency medical care in accordance with EMT certification and established protocols.
  • You will lead hazardous materials response operations, including entry team coordination and decontamination procedures.
  • You will conduct fire inspections, pre-incident planning, and public fire prevention activities.
  • You will ensure operational readiness and maintenance of firefighting, rescue, and communication equipment.
  • You will assign daily work, monitor crew performance, and provide input on evaluations, awards, and disciplinary actions.
  • You will maintain proficiency in technical rescue operations including confined space, trench, and structural collapse rescue.
  • You must have a current valid California State driving certificate with the Department of Defense Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (DOD/EVOC).
  • You must have a California State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT/AED), Firefighter I, and obtain Inland County Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) status within 60 days of hire.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment and annual physical examination.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to work 72-hour workweek and subject to recall during off duty hours.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • The applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a “Favorably Adjudicated” Access National Agency Check with Inquiries (ANACI) with Secret Security eligibility.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Leading and directing day to day emergency and non-emergency responsibilities, tasks, and duties of the workforce; AND proficient in fighting fires of structural, aircraft, wildland, perform emergency medical, hazardous materials, urban search and rescue, emergency services communications, and fire prevention activities.

NOTE: FIREFIGHTER SPECIAL RETIREMENT COVERAGEMAXIMUM ENTRY AGE: Title 5 U.S.C. 3307 authorizes the head of any agency to establish a maximum entry age for the original appointment of individuals to the position of primary and rigorous firefighter. The date immediately preceding an individual's 37th birthday is the maximum entry age for original appointment to a position as a Firefighter (Paramedic). This age restriction does not apply to those who have previously served in a Federal civilian firefighting position covered by title 5 U.S.C. section 3307 provisions OR qualified veteran preference eligible covered by title 5 U.S.C. 3307.Primary Position- The employee's primary duties must be performing work directly connected with the control and extinguishment of fires (CSRS and FERS). In general, if an employee spends an average of at least 50% of his/her time performing a duty or group of duties, they are his/her primary duties. Fire Protection Inspectors, Fire Protection Specialists and positions that are predominantly supervisory in nature or perform training are not considered primary positions.
