Help

As a Supervisory Financial Specialist at the GS-0501-15 grade level, some of your typical work assignments may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Administration of financial management to include establishment of financial policies, procedures, system updates, and training.
  • Budget formulation and execution.
  • Management of obligations, accruals, expenditures, and vendor/party processing.
  • Procurement and administration of contracts primarily to support the custody, management, and disposal of seized and forfeited assets.

Qualifications

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit Promotion applicants must provide an SF50 Notice of Personnel Action that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF50 must include the position, title, series, grade, step, tenure, type of service (Competitive or Excepted) and career status (career or career-conditional). No award SF50 will be accepted as proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility.

  • One year at the GS-14 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-15 grade level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the specialized experience required for the grade level(s) to which you apply.

To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must meet the following:

Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. You must have at least one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties:
  1. Providing administrative, technical, and human resources management supervision to staff members to include but not limited to career development, performance management, and disciplinary actions;
  2. Evaluating financial management practices, trends, and technology and recommending changes where necessary to streamline or improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of the services provided;
  3. Managing a variety of financial functions including financial reporting, obligations, disbursements, funds control, and month-end close processes;
  4. Directing the formulation, interpretation, and execution of budget and fiscal policies, standards, and procedures; AND
  5. Guiding a program or team that offers business solutions and procurement services primarily for the management and disposition of seized and forfeited assets.

The United States Marshals Service (USMS) is the nation's oldest and most versatile federal law enforcement agency. The missions of the Service include protection of the judiciary, court security, witness security, asset seizure and forfeiture, fugitive apprehension, and prisoner transportation and custody.

This position is located in the USMS, Asset Forfeiture Division (AFD). AFD is instrumental in supporting the priorities and initiatives of the Department of Justice (DOJ) Asset Forfeiture Program. Asset forfeiture authority is used to remove the financial incentives from crime, depriving criminals of the cash and other assets they rely upon to facilitate their illegal activity against our society, thereby dismantling criminal organizations. AFD manages the assets seized by federal law enforcement agencies nationwide. These assets could include but are not limited to cash, financial instruments, real estate, vehicles, commercial businesses, jewelry, and aircraft. Forfeited proceeds generated from these assets are used to compensate victims, supplement funding for law enforcement initiatives, support community programs, and fund the continued operations of the Program.
