Specialized Experience Statement: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-4 level, as a security escort to visitors to a place of business.

Note: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.

Medical Requirements

The duties of these positions require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. Agencies may establish additional, job-related physical or medical requirements provided that the specific position(s) involves the arduous or hazardous duties to which the requirements relate. (Please see Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria’ section for additional agency established requirements)

Applicants and employees must have the capacity to perform the essential functions of the position without risk to themselves or others. Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must meet the criteria for veterans’ preference unless there are more vacancies than eligible veterans in the applicant pool. Must be able to work varying work hours, with a reporting time as early as 5:30 a.m. on a regular basis. Overtime may be assigned as needed. Must be able to lift and carry an unconscious person, with the assistance of one other person. Must be able to stoop and bend. Must be able to carry a 20-pound object without assistance. Must be able to climb and descend fixed vertical ladders and two flights of steps quickly, without difficulty.

Must be able to stand and/or walk continuously for 2.5 hours, without a break, daily. Must be able to stand and or walk every workday for cumulative total of 5 hours and 40 minutes. Must be able to work in closed and confined spaces, such as a security booth and underground facilities with a wide variance of temperature. Must have the agility and ability to subdue violent suspects. Must be able to hear conversational voice and radio transmissions, and able to convey information via portable radio and telephone at a normal conversational volume.

Security:  Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and guidelines related to securing personnel, facilities, and information, including the requirements for handling, transporting, and protecting classified information and proper reporting of security incidents.

Category Rating: Qualified candidates will be assigned to one of the three quality categories: The quality categories are defined as: Qualified, Well Qualified, or Best Qualified.

Qualified Category = Does not exceed the basic qualifications requirements described in the "Qualifications" section of this announcement.

Well Qualified Category = Meets the basic qualifications requirements described in the "Qualifications" section of this announcement and demonstrates proficiency in the Critical Competencies defined below. (This category must be met to be considered under ICTAP procedures)

Best Qualified Category = Meets the basic qualifications requirements described in the "Qualifications" section of this announcement and excels in the Critical Competencies defined below. The category assignment is a measure of the degree in which your background matches the competencies required for this position.
