Duties

Help
  • You will serve as Supervisory Firefighter responding to emergencies as a member of an Engine Company, Truck Company, Rescue Company, Hazardous Materials Team and/or a Rescue Team.
  • You will assure work assignments are completed by Firefighlers, Driver/Operators and Emergency Dispatch Operators.
  • You will be responsible for analysis of any particular emergency situation to establish lifesaving medical priorities without medical advice or directions.
  • You will participate in training and instruction classes covering all phases of fire prevention, fire protection, and emergency medical services.
  • You will prepare reports for supervisors concerning fire runs, training, fire inspections and other projects as assigned.
  • You will work closely with other supervisory firefighters on the opposite platoon to ensure a smooth orderly and complete transition of day.to-day operations.
  • You will assume the position of Incident Commander at all emergencies/incidents until relieved by the Supervisory Firefighter GS·11 or Fire Chief.
  • You will be responsible for analysis of any particular emergency situation to establish lifesaving medical priorities without medical advice or directions.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid State of California or equivalent driver’s license with a Firefighter Endorsement within thirty (30) days of appointment.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Government Emergency Vehicle Operators License within 90 days of employment.
  • This is a drug test designated position. The incumbent is required to pass a pre-employment drug test and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has been designated Emergency-Essential. In the event of an emergency the incumbent must report to work unless otherwise instructed by management. Incumbent may also be instructed to work during non-duty hours.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to work a 72-hour work week and subject to recall during off duty hours.
  • Certifications required at the time of appointment: Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) license, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advance Life support (PALS), Firefighter I and II, DPO driver.
  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: In addition to possessing all necessary certifications, specialized experience for both levels must demonstrate the following: lead and direct work associated with fire suppression and prevention, emergency medical treatment and ambulance transport services, emergency communications, and public education and training services.

Certifications required at the time of appointment: HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Awareness, IAW DODI 1400.25 Vol. 336. Must obtain their EMT-P accreditation through the Inland County Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) within 60 days of employment, maintain certification, and adhere to basic scope of practice standards as defined in Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations, throughout his/her career.


Must possess certification with the Department of Defense Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (DOD/EVOC), California State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT/AED), Firefighter I, and obtain Inland County Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) status within 60 days of hire.

Must be a competent firefighter in structural, aircraft, wildland, emergency medical, hazardous materials, urban search and rescue, emergency services communication, and fire prevention activities.

Must be certified at the appropriate firefighter certification levels as outlined in the DODI 6055.6.M, Department of Defense (DOD) Fire Emergency Services Certification Program.

Must participate in mandatory physical fitness program. Considerable stress is involved with emergency situations. An annual physical is required, to determine if physical ability is adequate for performance of duties.

This is a bargaining unit position.

Recruitment incentive may be authorized in accordance with applicable regulations, command policy and available command funding.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
