This position works with other shops as necessary and the Project Section for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation and new construction of over 58 buildings on the main campus and at two off-site locations (Klamath Falls CBOC and Grants Pass West).

Help

Major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintains operation, completes repairs, reviews design, completed installs, and tests electrical systems, electric setup equipment and internal electrical power distribution facilities including connection of power and control circuits to motors, industrial equipment and alarm systems including critical alarms.
  • determines nature and extent of repairs required and reviews plans for repairs, renovation and new construction for the Project Section and determines efficiencies for layout work from blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, technical manuals and other specifications.
  • Makes standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment and uses unique measuring instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters, watt meters, ohmmeters and meggers.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and install all types of electric motors, valves and actuators, including single phase and multiphase motors. These motors may be AC and DC, may have horsepower ratings from a fraction to 50 HP, and voltage up to 460 volts.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and install a variety of electrical equipment, including equipment belonging to Nutrition and Food Service and FMS; fans and blowers; office and medical equipment; paging, nurse's call and overhead intercom systems; and Boiler Plant controls.
  • Maintain, repairs, and periodically tests 300+ KW emergency power generators including transfer switches, disconnects and uninterruptable power supply systems.
  • Install and maintain secondary distribution systems up to 600 volts for indoor and outdoor lighting, power and equipment, including panel boards, switches, circuit breakers, conduit, wiring and fixtures.
  • Inspects primary distribution systems. The system includes motorized high voltage transformers ranging from 50 KVA to 500 KVA.
  • Performs inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repair on fire alarm and ancillary equipment components related to system.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on non-medical equipment, electrical appliances and electrical components of other systems as scheduled.
  • Conducts electrical safety tests on a variety of electrically powered equipment throughout the facility.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. (PST)

Physical Requirements: Position requires manual dexterity, good physical condition and stamina. Incumbent should be able to lift or move objects weighting up to twenty (20) or twenty-five (25) pounds. Work requires climbing ladders, considerable crawling, walking, bending and stooping; working from ladders or from a cherry picker up to forty (40) feet above the ground.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/15/2026.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Journeyman Electrical license or equivalent: Electricians at this level will possess a current Journeyman Electrical license or equivalent with a minimum of six years of trade experience. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current, valid Journeyman Electrical license (or equivalent).

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, Ability to do the work of a Electrician without more than normal supervision. Qualifying experience includes: Working independently as an electrician; utilizing knowledge of electrical theory and National Electrical Code requirements; installing, modifying, repairing and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment; using instruments and tools common to the electrical trade; reading and following wiring diagrams and blueprints to install or repair electrical equipment; using a variety of hand and power tools; and utilizing testing equipment. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
