Help
  • You will use standard practices, guides, and recurring precedents to provide technical support for the manufacture energetic materials.
  • You will be responsible for propellant and explosive mixing, double base propellant extrusion and processing, unit disassembly, hardware preparation, sub-assembly and assembly, and motor load and pack-out.
  • You will lead subtasks of large projects as a member of a technical task team in order to maintain project quality and the implementation of continuous process improvements.
  • You will review tests and test results under the supervision of senior technicans and engineers.
  • You will be part of an immediate work group maintaining product quality and implementing continuous process improvements.
  • You will work toward resolution of problems associated with product quality, design, and adaption of process equipment, under the supervision of senior technicians and engineers.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You must be willing and able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position requires shift work. You will be required to work night, morning, and afternoon shifts.

Qualifications

FOR NT-03: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower band, NT-02 (GS-05 through GS-08 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying technical engineering procedures by reading, interpreting, or applying technical drawings, diagrams, or specifications in support of technical engineering work (e.g., manufacturing energetic materials) in alignment with organizational requirements.

FOR NT-02: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower band, NT-01 (GS-01 through GS-04 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: reading and interpreting technical drawings, diagrams, or specifications to assist technical engineering work (e.g., design; quality; or adaptation of production systems and equipment) for an organization.

FOR NT-02:
Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
OR
Have a combination of experience and post high school education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

Additional information

You will serve as a Technician in the Energetics Manufacturing Technology Department (M) of Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head.

This announcement uses the STRL for Direct Support direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project.

The NT-02 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-05/GS-08. The NT-03 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-09/10. FPL NT-04 is equivalent to GS-11/12.

NT-03: $70,623-$101,097

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
