Duties

Help
  • Protect government property, materials and facilities against trespass, theft, fire, damage and espionage.
  • Exercise exclusive law enforcement jurisdiction responsible for the, apprehension or detention of persons suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States .
  • Detain or arrest suspected or guilty persons.
  • Collect and protect evidence, witnesses, victims, etc.
  • Arrest persons committing or suspected of committing crimes on the installation.
  • Patrol assigned area by vehicle or on foot to preserve the peace, prevent crime, and protect lives and property.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles
  • This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms.
  • Incumbent is required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56 within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and /or protective clothing and equipment.
  • This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete the US Army Civilian Police Academy program within 12 months of hire/ or is a current employee and is considered grandfathered IAW AR 190-56/or have a current approved waiver from (OPMG).
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass the National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. For GS-6:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Maintaining order and protecting life; 2) Responding to citizens in emergency/non-emergency situations; and 3) Protecting property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

For GS-7:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Performing law enforcement investigation in accordance with established policies and procedures; 2) Collecting/preserving evidence for an investigation; and 3) Preparing statements concerning incidents such as accidents or law violations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
