Duties

Help
  • Operate a 10-ton, diesel-powered, barge-mounted, mobile crane, with a 47-foot boom in performing both marine and land-based crane operations.
  • In operating engines must choose and follow operations required to prevent damage to equipment.
  • Operates barge-mounted mobile crane in hoisting and lowering expensive marine pumps and parts, electric motors, dredge propellers, shafts, pipeline sections, and various other equipment involved in dredging operations, repair and maintenance.
  • Operates computer equipment associated with GPS in order to position dredge on proper alignment.
  • Responsible for the condition of crane, determines attachments and rigging necessary for each lift, directs work of others assigned to him, makes repairs to equipment, and maintains written maintenance log on crane.
  • Observes conditions and operations of attendant dredge plant and other vessel traffic in the vicinity during lifting operations in order to change lifting procedures immediately to respond to the changing conditions.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Dredging Equipment Operator~ without more than normal supervision perform the common operation of a 25-ton, diesel-powered, barge-mounted, mobile crane. I can perform both marine and land-based crane operations . I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

  • Physical Effort: In performing duties of this position, incumbent is continually reaching for and manipulating controls simultaneously, using hands and feet. This requires moderate physical effort, since controls are relatively easy to move, requiring less than 10 pounds of effort.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside Pilot House and outside on deck when making inspections, repairs and overhauls to engines and dredging equipment. When working outside is expose to fumes, smoke, grease and odors, noise, steam burns, cuts and infections, injury caused by whiplash from broken cables and by working around moving machinery.
