Duties

Help
  • Assists with plans, organizes and administers the activities of the Fire Prevention Branch in conjunction with the Deputy Fire Chief.
  • Formulates overall planning of the fire prevention and protection program of the installation.
  • Issues and revises fire bills, fire prevention regulations, training programs, and similar activities designed to eliminate or minimize fire hazards.
  • Administers a program to identify, detect, observe and correct causes that contribute to fires and fire hazards, which are considered above and beyond the calculated risks recognized for safety.
  • Formulates pre-fire planning and prearranged operating procedures for the control of unforeseen fires in buildings, explosive areas, and other areas, with particular emphasis placed on areas.
  • The extremely hazardous nature of many areas of the installation adds materially to the difficulty of incumbent's job, especially in relation to prevention and pre-planning.
  • Performs as the Directorate of Emergency Service (DES) Environmental Compliance Officer (ECO).
  • Incumbent is responsible for determining the priority of work assignments within the fire prevention branch.

  • Due to the need for availability in On-call situation, the incumbent is expected to maintain a functioning telephone to be contacted.
  • Incumbent will be required to work 60 hours per week, which includes at least one 24-hour shift and may include working nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Incumbent must wear a uniform and appropriate safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Incumbent is subject to periodic (e.g. annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
  • Incumbent must participate in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
  • This position required to maintain at minimum the following certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector III, Fire Instructor II, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Airport Firefighter.
  • This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Due to the need for availability in On-call situation, the incumbent is expected to maintain a functioning telephone to be contacted.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: developing training of fire prevention and protection methods and tools; performing troubleshooting and evaluation of life safety systems; and inspecting structure for compliance with fire, electrical and life safety codes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

DOD FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To occupy this position, at the time of appointment the incumbent must possess and then continue to maintain the following DoD Firefighter Certification levels:

Fire Officer III
Fire Inspector III
Fire Instructor II
HAZMAT Incident Commander
Airport Firefighter

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-10).

  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
  • Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and DoDI 1400.25 volume 1250.
