Duties

Help

  • Plans, develops, executes and evaluates a comprehensive range of immersive experiential educational and training approaches for educational and training curriculum and development.
  • Teaches in support or relevant Air University programs as required and serves as lead for faculty development opportunities in support of Air University's and OTS's mission.
  • Evaluates courses, making adjusting as necessary to the immersive experiential design of the curriculum application, learning experience design methodologies, immersive technology implementation, schedules, etc., based on internal and external evaluation analysis including graduate and supervisor feedback and input from other instructors.
  • Accomplishes special projects and conducts individual and student research. Develops and implements specialprojects designed to resolve issues, improve education, respond to specific taskings, answer internal and externalinquiries, or correct deficiencies.
  • Develops and maintains professional contacts with a variety of levels and organizational elements, MajorCommands, Air Staff, DoD, other government agencies, Air University.

  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.

  • Employee must be willing and able to travel by military and commercial air in accordance with Joint Travel Regulations to perform occasional multi-day temporary duty.
  • Must meet positive education requirements specified in the OPM qualification standards. A minimum of an earned terminal degree is required in disciplines related to the school's curriculum. PhD highly desired-
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours.
  • Work experience in Professional Military Education and with company grade officers is also highly desired.
  • Because of the nature of the Air University education programs, incumbent may be required to teach graduate level courses across SOS, the School of Graduate PME, ACSC, lecture-hall, classroom and online teaching sessions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of clearance.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: (1)Possess comprehensive knowledge of instructional systems concepts, principles, methods, and specialized practices, along with a solid grounding in learning theory (2)Expertise developed through advanced academic study, extensive professional experience, and continuous engagement with emerging trends and best practices in the learning and development field. (3) Mastery of diverse instructional development methods, enabling comprehensive analysis to determine requirements for revising existing instructional systems or creating new training programs (4) Comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of instructional program planning methods and techniques, enabling effective planning of total training support requirements, including personnel, equipment, facilities, budget, and other resources (5)Knowledge and skill in collaborating with curriculum designers, course developers, instructors, and subject-matter experts to coordinate system analyses that support the development of training support equipment, including simulators, test devices, and mock-ups.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1.Professional knowledge in one or more of the following fields: organizational leadership, organizational behavior, critical thinking, psychology, multi-domain operations or associated fields, as well as learning theory and the principles, methods, practices, and techniques of the instructional systems field to administer, advise on, design, develop, or provide educational or training services in formal training programs.

2. Knowledge of and ability to follow foundational instructional design and development processes to analyze, research, design and write educationally sound instructional materials and instructor guides for use in classroom instruction and to construct and validate appropriate evaluation instruments to determine level and extent of student learning and achievement.

3. Knowledge of educational resources, program, principles, policies, practices, and techniques of educational instruction for the adult learner, as well as training resources programs, principles, and policies.

4. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to deliver rich and engaging lectures, for both in resident and online programs..Ability to work effectively and constructively with various groups in accomplished assigned projects in both lead and follower capacity.

5. Ability to establish instructional program objectives and assess program toward their achievement and accomplishing special educational/instructional group research studies and projects.

6. Ability to analyze problems related to instructional material or support equipment and develop timely and economical solutions such as develop finished products including lesson plans, training texts, television programs, programmed texts, or computer assisted instruction.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
