Duties

Help
  • Operates a passenger bus with an approximate gross vehicle weight up to 30,000 pounds and with passenger capacity ranging from 44 to 72 students.
  • Provides safe and efficient transportation for students to and from school.
  • Assists in the loading and unloading of children with special needs and their equipment, as well as assisting these students in getting to and from their classrooms.
  • Reports all disciplinary action to the school principal and the DOA.
  • Conducts maintenance and safety checks on the school bus prior to beginning all routes.
  • Records school bus route and schedule on the trip ticket.
  • Reports problems to the designated government representative (DOR).

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • One year probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • This position is a Testing Designated position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. You will be required to sign a DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain a Government operator's permit.
  • Must have a safe driving record.
  • Incumbent must be able to pass a pre-employment driving test given by management in a vehicle such as a 12-18 passenger vehicle or a full sized school bus.
  • This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements to include a state Bus Certification.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: operation of passenger vehicles to include safe driving skills and the ability to detect mechanical problems. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision
  • Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)
  • Operation of Motor Vehicles
  • Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order)
  • Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort is required to reach, bend, tum or move hands, arms, feet and legs, and operate hand and foot controls to move and tum bus. The duties regularly require moderate physical in loading and unloading children with special needs and their equipment, as well as assisting these students in getting to and from their classes.
  • Working Conditions: Incumbent drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving.
