About the Position: The incumbent performs duties as Desk Sergeant on a specific shift assigned to the Directorate of Emergency Services Police Department. Incumbent is responsible for directing, coordinating, and overseeing the Desk operations.

Duties

Help
  • Serves as the initial point of contact for all persons, activities, visitors, and complainants either in person or telephonically regarding any activity that requires police action.
  • As the initial contact in an emergency contact - receives, interprets, evaluates, and immediately decides what action is appropriate and implements that course of action.
  • Interprets existing Department of the Army, Installation Command (IMCOM), and Fort Sill rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to law enforcement and access control.
  • Solely responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the Military Issue and Commercial Intrusion Detections Systems located on the Desk.
  • Responsible for the operation of Detention Cells.
  • In the absence of a Senior Shift Supervisor, and the Road Sergeant the incumbent assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Shift Supervisor.
  • Ensures entries made in the Police Blotter and Journal are accurate in every detail in order to give an overview of an incident or situation that has occurred.

  • As a condition of employment, the incumbent must comply with all requirements of the current Army Regulation (AR) 190-56 and of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) as set forth there in.
  • Incumbent must have completed and passed the Department of Army Police Academy course or have a current Police Officer certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must wear prescribed uniform.
  • Incumbent works both inside and outside with possible exposure to inclement weather.
  • Shift work is required; position may require shift rotation to include nights, weekend and holidays, and rotation of days off; may have the requirement to be on call on a 24 hour basis. Overtime may be required as directed.
  • The incumbent will be required to successfully complete an appropriate medical examination prior to employment and annually thereafter. Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • IAW AR 190-56 incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019 and to pass an initial drug test and will then receive periodic random drug testing IAW AR 600-85.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain the degree of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties as described in the job description. Incumbent must pass an initial Physical Agility Test (PAT) and annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned weapons and will be required to perform semi-annual weapons training/qualifications.
  • This position is covered by the l996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear protective/chemical mask and other protective clothing and equipment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Perform law enforcement duties based upon knowledge of laws, statutes, and procedures to maintain order and protect life and property; 2) Collect evidence for use in investigations and prosecutions; 3) Evaluate situations to determine degree or severity of the incident to dispatch appropriate emergency response team. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
