Duties

Help
  • Receive, store, load, and unload a wide range of materials including, but not limited to, office supplies, medical supplies, and equipment.
  • Check and assemble materials, process shipping/distribution documents, and route materials and equipment to correct locations or storage areas.
  • Unload supplies from trucks or other conveyances utilizing forklifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, etc.
  • Verify materials received against manifests, delivery receipts, routing slips, or bills of lading.
  • Unpack boxes, cartons, and other containers and disassembles and distributes unit loads received; reduces large shipment lots to individual issuance or stock; and places incoming supplies in bins, tables, racks and various storage areas.
  • Process and prepare the distribution and shipment of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT).

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Inclement Weather Essential: Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • Lifting: Lifting up to 40 pounds may be required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler ~ without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in checking and assembling materials, processing shipping/distribution documents, routing materials and equipment to correct locations or storage areas; Unpacking boxes, cartons, and other containers and disassembles and distributing unit loads received; Checking supplies for nomenclature, stock number, quantity and condition; Locating, accessing, loading, and moving materials for shipments from trucks; Packing, crating, marking and ensuring proper documentation of material for shipment. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: The worker is required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. They frequently lift or carry items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted. The heavier items (up to 70 pounds) are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
  • Working Conditions: The work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. The worker is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. The worker may be subject to exposure from toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes when working in hazardous materials areas. The work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toes shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.
