Duties

Help
  • Answer questions, resolves unusual situations, and provides overall guidance on all specimen-processing policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely preparation and accuracy of memorandums explaining deviations from Standard Operating Procedures that are required for legal documentation purposes.
  • Provide advice to laboratory management on proposed changes in procedures in order to improve laboratory services.
  • Perform mutual quality control checks on the work of fellow Specimen Controllers on a daily basis.
  • Perform technical and administrative support functions necessary for successful unit mission accomplishment.
  • Perform the full range of supervisory duties for a staff of 8-11 employees at the GS-06 and GS-07 level.
  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts priorities and prepares schedules for the completion of work.
  • Assure production and accuracy requirements are met.
  • Apply the pertinent laws and regulations to coordinate workflow with other sections of the laboratory.

  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Employees are expected to complete a certification program that will be provided by the agency prior to promotion to the full performance level. Certification must be completed within 6 months of appointment.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Frequent local travel and occasional temporary duty (TDY) business travel may be required (may require hotel stay for multiple nights to meet mission requirement).
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Additional requirements may be determined as positions arise and will be communicated during the hiring process if you are selected.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience GS-09: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience: 1) Providing advice to laboratory management on proposed changes in procedures in order to improve laboratory services; 2) Applying the pertinent laws and regulations to coordinate work flow with other sections of the laboratory as needed; 3) Answering questions, resolving unusual situations, and providing overall guidance on all specimen-processing policies and procedures.

Education
