Duties

Help
  • Develop plans for law enforcement operations on the installation for the Director of Emergency Services’ approval.
  • Review and develop implementation plans for new or changed laws, policies, and regulations affecting the current programs.
  • Perform the full range of supervisory duties and direct the staff through subordinate supervisor and shift leaders.
  • Plan for current and long-range operations based on workloads, trends, and projected requirements.
  • Develop methods and procedures affecting overall operations and assign tasks to subordinate supervisor.
  • Formulates long range operating plans based on assigned mission and functions; regulatory guidance, equipment, funding and staffing requirements necessary for mission accomplishment.
  • Write updated policy letters, memorandums, and guidelines pertaining to the conduct and performance of assigned law enforcement activities.
  • Perform specialist tasks such as public relations visits to units and activities serviced.
  • Conduct liaison visits to local law enforcement agencies to discuss areas of mutual concern.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical /psychiatric evaluation.
  • Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Pre-employment and annual drug screening is required.
  • This position is considered Mission Essential. In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Position is designated Key.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Required to wear prescribed uniform and associated equipment.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) business travel to worldwide locations is required less than 25% of the time.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning and directing law enforcement operations such as patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement or emergency response activities; supervising law enforcement personnel including assigning work, evaluating performance and ensuring officers meet required training and certification standards; applying and developing laws and regulations to enforce public safety missions; and responding to or directing responses to serious incidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • This position is designated Key. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the Key duties until relieved by proper authority. The incumbent, or the designated alternate, may be required to take part in readiness exercises. This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively, therefore, the position is designated "key", which requires the incumbent, or designated alternate, to be screened from military recall status.
  • Will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass a Physical Ability Test within 30 days of appointment and annually thereafter in accordance with AMC Supplement 1, AR 190-56 and FM 21-20. The PAT requires running 1 mile in 12:30 minutes, and performing 9 push-ups in 2 minutes and 20 sit ups in 2 minutes. Failure to meet PAT requirements will result in reassignment or separation.
  • Within the first 2 years, boat crew members, must complete swim assessment, Basic Maritime Officers Course, Advanced Basic Maritime Officer Course, Rescue Boat Operations Course, National Association of State Boating Law Administrators courses - Basic Crew Member, Boat Search and Rescue, Tactical Operator, Boat Safety Course and MOT personnel qualification standard. Failure to complete the training requirements could lead to disciplinary actions.
