Help

The incumbent performs the job responsibilities for the DAY SHIFT tour of duty and is an integral member of Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Team, providing a constant physical presence, active counseling and situational awareness for assisting residents of the domiciliary.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as a liaison for assigned Veteran residents with responsibility for having specific knowledge of the resident's needs, his/her treatment plan and progress being made by the resident and staff toward the objectives of the Treatment Plan.
  • Maintains control records consistent with case liaison functions for Veteran Residents and participates in treatment planning weekly.
  • Counsels with Veteran residents documenting in the resident's medical record, shift reports and incident sheets any pertinent data and information about the resident's health, behavior, functioning and self-report information having relevance to the resident's treatment objectives, well-being and safety.
  • Facilitates participation for residents in recreation, work therapy and other therapeutic activities.
  • Initiates, organizes and participates in various activities pertaining to the resident treatment and administrative functioning of Treatment Team(s).
  • Works under minimal supervision having responsibility for maintaining a presence on all living areas, conducting hourly rounds, inspections and searches, assuring that safety, security and wellness is maintained so that routine and emergency and urgent medical care delivery services are provided to residents requesting or demonstrating such needs.
  • Responsible for safely transporting residents to nurse's station(s), urgent care, or emergency department for assistance, as needed.
  • Provides Basic Life Support, First Aid, behavioral and crisis intervention to Veterans in distress as emergency responders.
  • Responsible for working with professional and administrative personnel,. i.e., physicians, psychologists, social workers, nurses, MAAs, safety manager, police, etc., for consultations with staff on other multidisciplinary treatment teams and other facility personnel to monitor progress of residents.
  • Responsible for performing various Domiciliary Care Programs with administrative tasks such as timekeeping, organization of documents, recruitment, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation and record keeping of residents working Incentive Therapy positions in Domiciliary Living Units.
  • Responsible for conducting welfare inspections of resident personal belongings at time of admission and designated intervals during their stay including the living units for the purpose of ensuring resident safety, security, health, hygiene and medication compliance.

  • Physical Requirements: Work involves a considerable amount of walking, during rounds, both inside and outside the Domiciliary and walking up and down stairs. Occasionally may be exposed to inclement and intemperate weather. Lifts, pulls, moves moderate to heavy equipment, bags, boxes and furniture and may be called on at any time to assist in loading or lifting stretchers for residents requiring such transfer to the hospital. May occasionally be exposed to physically and emotionally stressful situations brought about by agitated or emotionally disturbed residents.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/15/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

In addition to Time In Grade Requirement, you must meet the Specialized experience below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: served as program assistant, secretary, administrative assistant responsible for providing administrative services to mid-level managers. Research, interpret and apply complex set of laws, rules, regulations and policies and explain policies to residents in basic terms; recognize and evaluate various medical situations, react appropriately and perform emergency medical treatment as needed and the ability to prioritize cases and prepare an emergency contingency plan; Working knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation for documentation purposes and to complete necessary reports, write memorandums, letters and other similar documents. Typing skills, at least at a basic level, to serve as a foundation to learn basic computer/word processing functions., Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, etc.
